C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum Open House

On April 1st, the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum, located at 219 E. Woodlawn in Clinton, Illinois, will open its doors for the 2017 season. In honor of this year being the 150th anniversary of the Victorian Mansion’s completion, the DeWitt County Museum Association invites the public to attend free admission open house tours during the weekend of April 1-2.

Visitors are welcome to stop by the museum anytime between the hours of 10am and 5pm on Saturday, April 1st and from 1pm to 5pm on April 2nd to tour the historic house and learn about the landmark’s past.

Among the special items and topics of interest featured will be early photographs of the house, a glimpse into the lives of the Bishops who first called the 150 year old house “home,” an observant young girl’s impression of the house’s interior and décor in 1905, the amazing true story of the Confederate Civil War soldier who once resided in the house, what is known of those who resided in the house as hired servants, furnishings original to the home when the Moore’s resided here, and photographs of the 1960’s restoration process. Those who have resided in the grand old house in the past are also encouraged to attend the celebratory open house and share their recollections.

For more information, please contact Museum Director, Joey Woolridge, at 217-935-6066.
