2017 will be a special year of commemorations for the C.H. Moore
Homestead DeWitt County Museum... Bicentennial of C.H. Moore's
Sesquicentennial of the Completion of the Mansion
Golden Anniversary for the DeWitt County Museum Association
C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum Open House
On April 1st, the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum,
located at 219 E. Woodlawn in Clinton, Illinois, will open its doors
for the 2017 season. In honor of this year being the 150th anniversary
of the Victorian Mansion’s completion, the DeWitt County Museum
Association invites the public to attend free admission open house
tours during the weekend of April 1-2.
Visitors are welcome to stop by the museum anytime between the
hours of 10am and 5pm on Saturday, April 1st and from 1pm to 5pm on
April 2nd to tour the historic house and learn about the landmark’s
Among the special items and topics of interest featured will be
early photographs of the house, a glimpse into the lives of the
Bishops who first called the 150 year old house “home,” an
observant young girl’s impression of the house’s interior and
décor in 1905, the amazing true story of the Confederate Civil War
soldier who once resided in the house, what is known of those who
resided in the house as hired servants, furnishings original to the
home when the Moore’s resided here, and photographs of the 1960’s
restoration process. Those who have resided in the grand old house in
the past are also encouraged to attend the celebratory open house and
share their recollections.
